On October 16, weirdo pop tunesmith Mac DeMarco will drop his second release of 2012. 2 is the name of his debut album, out via Captured Tracks. Like many of his label mates, DeMarco pulls the more experimental threads out of the pop canon, but he as the craftsmanship and instrumental ability to make sure his songs get stuck in your head.
2 cut "Freaking Out The Neighborhood" is buoyed by a slinky guitar line and a skittering rhythm but it's wistful all the same. Earlier this year, DeMarco's Rock And Roll Night Club reveled in the kind of Lou Reed-inspired urban sleaze, but this time around, the young songwriter finds some heart buried beneath the grime and good times.
