Anybody who breaks out the tired M83 to My Bloody Valentine comparison after listening to this Saturdays = Youth track is to be immediatley excommunicated. "Kim & Jessie" is revelatory to me mainly because it's suddenly obvious that this sort of overtly melodic, slightly cheesy 80's pop was always the anchor beneath M83's fathoms of radiating feedback. It's also that much easier to now place Anthony Gonzalez in the pantheon of recent FM chart devotees that the current French decade has produced (Pheonix, Justice, etc). It's quite startling what a "capital P" pop song this is, so much so that it took several lessons for the creepy chorus to break clear of its candy coating. Wait, "somebody lurks in the shadows.."? Good thing he cut the white noise level enough to let us know.
