In case you ever doubted that Lupe's bending-over backwards sell-out via Lasers won't pay off, check how crazy the crowd goes for him in this video from Lopez last night. I mean, would the crowd be this nuts if he was going to be doing "Dumb It Down" or "Kick Push"? I doubt it. All it takes to get people to know your name is to cover Modest Mouse and do a song as simple as Black Eyed Peas' "Where Is The Love?". B.o.B probably cringed when he heard this the first time. I mean, I guess I'm sorta happy that Lupe is not just a third-tier rapper anymore, but at the same time, I greatly prefer the humble, introspective Lupe to this version.
Lasers is out now.
I could be wrong but I think Kick Push was a pretty huge song for him.
Not like this though. I mean, my 10-year-old cousin loves this song, but she'd never listen to Kick Push.
Maybe this is just a better song than "Kick Push"? I'm not a fan of Lasers either, but the struggle with Atlantic is well-documented; it's not entirely his fault.
