Lou Reed, Metallica: "The View" (Video)

The IFC had the dubious honor of premiering Lou Reed and Metallica’s video for “The View,” which is directed by Darren Aronofsky. This is, of course, the song where James Hetfield gets to bellow “I am the table,” although sadly Aronofsky didn’t consider using some CGI to make that a reality in this clip. Instead, it’s a straightforward black-and-white clip of Reed and the band performing together.

“It was a marriage that on the surface made no sense, but the fusion changed the way I thought about both artists and morphed into something completely fresh and new,” said Aronofsky. “I think he has caught the anger, rage and anguish at the bottom of the soul of real rock,” said Reed, returning the complement.
