With all the attention that Bradford Cox gets via Deerhunter, Atlas Sound, and the general heaps of personal and professional press, it sometimes seems that the other members of Deerhunter slip past the radar as contributors to the band's sound and vision. Lest we get stuck to a one-sided view of one of the most prominent bands in the United States of Indie Rock, here comes Lotus Plaza, solo outlet of Deerhunter multi-instrumentalist/songwriter Lockett Pundt, with a cut from the upcoming full length debut The Floodlight Collective (Kranky, March 23). The track is called "Red Oak Way," and listening to it's associations and dissassociations with Lockett's related projects, I'm hopeful that Lotus Plaza's debut may attune the public to the non-Bradford dimensions of Deerhunters sound. Apparently Bradford and Locket have been BFF since high-school though, so seamless resemblances may be no surprise.
