Lotus Plaza: "Come Back"

In the late '90s, Modest Mouse's drummer Jeremiah Green was part of a side project called Red Stars Theory that built towering, post-emo epics from roaring guitar squalls and vocal melodrama. "Come Back," from Deerhunter multi-instrumentalist Lockett Pundt's Lotus Plaza project, is a spiritual successor to such noodlings as Life in a Bubble Can be Beautiful.

Driven by layers and layers of guitars and a healthy dose of surgical gauze distortion that wouldn't feel out of place in Pundt's primary band, "Come Back" builds like the best Godspeed You! Black Emperor moments from a decade ago. Each guitar track is given breathing room to crest and crash as it soldiers forward for nine pleasureable minutes. The track is being released as a limited print single (500 copies) for Audraglint, and it'll probably be on the Kranky-released LP that Lotus Plaza is putting out later this year. Listen below.
