‘Lost In Translation’ (Album)

In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a Renaissance of sorts going on in the New York City rap community. Be it through stalwarts like El-P, burgeoning acts like Das Racist, or relative newcomers like Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire, the city where hip-hop started is showing that all’s not lost in the creative realm. And what’s most intriguing about it is that they’re all working together.

Case in point: eXquire’s new project, Lost In Translation. The Brooklyn rapper was clearly reared on a steady feast of his city’s finest grimy hip-hop, from Wu-Tang Clan to Cannibal Ox to Public Enemy. The latter two influences are apparent because of eXquire’s ties to El-P. The fellow Brooklynite provided several beats on Lost In Translation, including the instrumental to Can Ox’s “Vein,” and he even co-produced a cut with eXquire on the raw-as-fuck album.

Further proving my previous point about collaboration is a newly revealed remix to Lost In Translation highlight “Huzzah!”. It features the viciously raw eXquire teaming up with like-minded New Yorkers Das Racist, Despot, and El-P along with Detroit’s Danny Brown. Stream it here
