Live at Other Music (Video)

For those of us who live outside of New York City, and anyone who wasn’t brave enough to fight the Record Store Day crowds at Other Music, we can now all take a few minutes and feel like we were there with this clip of Bill Callahan’s performance from Saturday night. The video’s tight close-up shots show Callahan getting lost in the song as he sings, which gives that deep groan of his even more resonance. We also get a comparison between the new “All Thoughts Are Prey to Some Beast” and the slightly older “Let Me See the Colts” (from the last Smog album, A River Ain’t Too Much to Love). Instead of showing us how different Callahan’s solo stuff is, in retrospect the Smog track actually hints at the soaring, beautiful ramble and wide-eyed searching of his latest record, Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle.

And check out that long hair of his. It sure looks like Callahan was meant to have that flowing mane, and it goes right along with the music’s drifting sway. [Fader]
