Little Brother: "Star"
With this North Carolina duo's swan song, LeftBack, dropping next month, it's likely we will be getting more leftover treats like "Star." According to Phonte's post on the OkayPlayer message boards, this track was recorded around the time the group had just released its scathing concept album, The Minstrel Show. And "Star" was apparently meant to be an iTunes bonus track for LeftBack, but it was removed because former LB member 9th Wonder didn't want it to be used. Phonte's feelings on the matter are as follows:
....we just got word today that 9th doesn't want us to use it for whatever reason, and that's fine.
In any event, I'm not gonna let anything or anybody stop me from getting music to my fans. Fuck that.
It's not easy to hear exactly why 9th didn't want them to use this track, because it's actually pretty damn good. Perhaps he just wants to save the beat for a later project? Who knows.
