Given her rash of performances of "The Fear" on every show that books musical guests, you're forgiven if you forgot that Lily Allen has an entire album (It's Not Me, It's You) of other songs out now. In fact, she's even got some B-sides making the rounds in the form of "Why," a self-loathing track that finds Allen bemoaning how she isn't one of the "interesting people who always got something to say." "Why" showcases the problematic aspect of It's Not Me pretty well; when Allen's MySpace blog posts substituting for lyrics are applied to funky ska, or dirty beats (like they were on her first album) the results can be pretty great. But when they're tied to blown-out, sad-sack synth romps with a lot of strings, they can be pretty mundane.
It's Not Me, It's You is out now via EMI. [Stereogum]

whoa. that's really bad. i'm so disappointed in the sharp downward turn her music has made.
