Back in May when Steve Earle performed on Letterman, I mentioned how it would be weird to think of Earle playing on any other late night show, because Letterman will put on whatever music he feels like. Sorry to repeat myself, but it's the same deal with Levon Helm's performance of "Tennessee Jed" on Letterman last night. The legendary drummer for the Band brought a robust backing band onto Letterman last night to perform the shambling track.
