“Lee Van Cleef” And “Jilly’s On Smack” (Live On Kimmel) (Video)

Green Naugahyde is the first Primus album of new material since anyone can remember (okay, since 1999’s Antipop) and the band showed up on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night to play a couple of tracks from it. Despite the passing of time and some retooling of the lineup—Green Naugahyde is the first Primus album to feature drummer Jay Lane—the formula here hasn’t changed much, with the twisted bass line of “Lee Van Cleef” combining with Les Claypool’s strained vocals to give these songs a demented funk undertow. And kudos to them for sneaking a song named “Jilly’s on Smack” onto the late night TV schedule—I bet that took some negotiating.
