Last time we heard from Lee Ranaldo he was speculating on the future of Sonic Youth ahead of the release of his Between the Time & the Tides LP. Now he’s returned to promoting that record by releasing a track from it titled “Off the Wall.” It’s possible that the lyrical content here was inspired by Ranaldo’s recent interest in the Occupy Wall Street movement—it’s difficult to interpret lines like “chaos on the streets/these are the days of rage” in any other way. Either way, this feels like we’re going to get an entire album of the type of tracks Ranaldo regularly produces for Sonic Youth, which is excellent news for anyone who has been pining for that kind of project over the years. Stream "Off the Wall" below.
