LCD Soundsystem: James Murphy Demonstrates Vintage VCS3 Synth

· by

James Murphy was at the MTV Movie Awards last weekend, and left an illuminating report on the event on his MySpace blog. The singer is currently preparing a new LCD Soundsystem album, which he describes as “a great experience.” Murphy has an incredibly collection of vintage synthesizers, and demonstrates one of them in this clip.

The legendary English company EMS originally produced the VCS3, also known as “The Putney,” back in 1969. The synth is housed in a wooden case and has three oscillators. Brian Eno, Pink Floyd, Aphex Twin and Stereolab have all used the VCS3 in the past. You can read more about it on Vintage Synth Explorer.
