The new LCD Soundsystem album may be their last or it may not, but either way James Murphy is going to have a blast this year. “Drunk Girls” was one of our first glimpses of This Is Happening, and the band took to the stage on Jools Holland’s show in the U.K. last night (May 11) to rip through the song at breakneck speed.
Visually, any rendition of this track is going to feel like a let down after that Spike Jonze video, but Murphy and his band more than make up for it by demonstrating how well the song translates to live performance—on record, “Drunk Girls” may have sounded like a perfunctory “Lust For Life” style canter through rock clichés, but here it really takes off into the stratosphere.
