There is no escaping La Roux’s “Bulletproof” this summer, and here it is again, this time performed on The View to further cement her mainstream status. According to Wikipedia, the song had shifted 862,000 downloads in the U.S. as of June 2010—an impressive achievement for a song that simply slots together familiar tropes from ‘80s synth artists like the Human League and Yazoo.
There’s a little bit more going on here than that of course, and the undeniably catchy song is expertly delivered by La Roux and her cartoonish band, who may be about to open the floodgates for some serious Flock of Seagulls-type action to take hold of the chart once again. It might not be very original, but the influx of hairspray teased haircuts and wider-than-wide shoulder pads should be worth it.
