Growing up in Arizona, I always though that Jesus Fever was what you came down with when you went to one too many Christian Youth Group meetings, but in the hands of Philadelphia lo-fi musician Kurt Vile, it's actually a delightful little pop song. "Jesus Fever" starts out with a summery guitar hook and a catchy drum machine and bounces along joyfully for three and a half minutes. Judging by this tidbit, Vile's upcoming LP, Smoke Ring For My Halo, sounds fuller and more polished than his previous material, though his outsider pop sensibilities remain firmly intact.
