The new Kings of Leon album, Only by the Night, is supposedly political, and unless a vague “the crucified U.S.A.” exultation is a call to arms, the album’s first single “Crawl” is a standard rocker from the Nashville band. “Crawl” moves along at a crunchy groove, as lead King Caleb Followill slithers on top of the music. The song shares a lot in common with “On Call” from last year’s Because of the Times, in that Caleb’s voice is given a strange reverb effect that makes him sound like he’s yelling in a huge empty building.
“Crawl” is available for free download at the NME’s website for today only.
Only by the Night is due out on 9/23 via RCA. [NME]
