Bloc Party’s dance-ready post-punk has always come with a political bent, and that goes double for the video for “Kettling.” The single is taken from this year’s comeback album Four, and here’s what frontman Kele Okereke had to say about the song:
“There was so much going on in the world in 2011 you couldn’t turn on the television without seeing pictures of people protesting or rioting or mass disarray. Of course those are quite frightening images. But there’s also something quite poetic about people standing up and saying they’ve had enough of something; that no, they will not take this any more. That’s what the song was really about.”
True to form, the clip matches the sharp riffs of “Kettling” with images of private school kids rebelling against one another. It’s all fun and games until one of them gets his face punched. Watch it below.
