Kelis: "In For The Kill" (La Roux Cover)

Pop Stars Covering Indie Darlings Day continues here at Prefix, this time with Kelis taking on La Roux's "In For The Kill" for BBC Radio One's Live Lounge.

On the original, La Roux's Eleanor Jackson attacks the synth-based track with a wide-eyed intensity, belting every line with what seems like a twinge of panic mixed in. Kelis takes the complete opposite route, cooing each line with a quiet confidence, while her backing band veers things dangerously close to lounge-act territory. Nobody may have been expecting Kelis to cover a La Roux song, so while it gets points for the surprise factor, it's ultimately just a competent but inessential effort.
