Kanye West has been saying a lot of crazy stuff since he entered the world of digital media a couple weeks back. One minute he's corraling Raekwon for a remix for a Justin Bieber song, the next, he's in the studio with Kobe freaking Bryant recording. He's known to fly anyone out to the Hawaii studio where he's hard at work on his as yet untitled sixth album.
Last week he promised to release a song a week every Friday until the album's November release, dubbing them "Good Fridays" (see what he did there?). Earlier today, he promised to release a five song collaborative album with Jay-Z. Many balked, but sure enough, 'Ye's dropped "Monster", a collaboration with Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, and Jay-Z. The beat sounds like a Nine Inch Nails track, all cavernous low end, programmed drums, and diced vocal samples. Pick it up, if only for Jay-Z perfectly unhinged horrorcore verse. Grab "Monster" here.
Interesting to be released this way (and for the track to be 6 minutes long). Nicki Minaj definitely wins the song with her verse though...in that it's the most memorable. Needs more Justin Vernon.
Jay's pretty killer too, I have to say.
it's a grower.
Track is pretty hot. Damn. Was hoping Justin Vernon would rhyme. haha.
Nicki's entertaining, per usual, but this track hasn't really hit me yet.
Oh, it will, my friend. It will.
I hope so. Like I said, I was feeling Nicki's verse, if only for sheer entertainment value and, you know, being a fan of Fire Marshal Bill.
Craig's right. This grew on me.
