Julie Doiron

"Spill Yer Lungs" (MP3)

Female singer-songwriter types are too often relegated instrumentally to piano and the occasional sunny acoustic guitar. On "Spill Yer Lungs" Julie Doiron manages the "sentimental lady songwriter reminiscing" thing with decidedly sunless instrumentation; rocky electric guitar and sedated drum and bass. Doiron moves from remembering to regretting quickly, switching to "maybes" in the second half of the song. "Maybe I should have mentioned that I was not built for this kind of loving," Doiron sings, like the reserve in the track's composition is meant to take up the slack for the words she can't sing. Doiron's I Can Wonder What You Did With Your Day is due out March 10 on Jagjaguwar. [The Fader]

I've liked all the songs I've heard off this album.

Me too, this is shaping up to be quite a disc. And the tracks I've heard got me to dig some Eric's Trip out of the forgotten patch of my cd collection, which is a nice bonus.
