The Julian Plenti album isn’t the expected step away from Paul Banks’ day job in Interpol; instead, it mostly mirrors his work with his other band. This version of “Skyscraper” from the album alters that format somewhat, with Banks performing in a stripped down acoustic format and using some subtle strings as backing.
The song was recorded live for NME radio, and demonstrates Banks’ penchant for locking his Bowie-esque vocal onto melancholy folk tunes. “Skyscraper” doesn’t really get going until halfway through the song, where Banks emerges to enigmatically sing, “shake me, skyscraper,” over and over until the end.
