Jazz-man Jose James (kind of) quietly dropped on of the stronger releases of 2010 with his Blackmagic record. And we previously highlighted a pair of tracks off that project, especially the Flying Lotus-produced "Code." The keyboards-driven track was an instant delight, riding a smoky groove that made listening to it nearly intoxicating. Apparently James and FlyLo didn't stop collaborating there, though, as the former just posted this previously unreleased cut from what I'm presuming was the Blackmagic sessions. Like Code," "Vicadin" is another gorgeous tune that drifts by with layers of vocal samples, steady drums, and James's soothing voice.
Stream the track below. The follow-up to Blackmagic is due out this year.
