John Legend, The Roots: "Our Generation" (Ernie Hines Cover)

We received a taste of The Roots and John Legend's upcoming collaborative album, Wake Up!, yesterday when footage leaked of the two acts performing Baby Huey and the Babysitters' "Hard Times." And now, as part of Levi's Pioneer Sessions, we have the audio for the Philly crew and piano-man's cover of "Our Generation" by Ernie Hines, which will also appear on Wake Up!.

With the use of the organ sounds and backing vocals, this cover is somewhat reminiscent of the production work Questlove did on Al Green's 2008 album, Lay It Down. But, of course, this ain't baby-making music. "Our Generation" is clearly more on the socially conscious, uplifting tip, which makes sense as that's the point of Wake Up!. Too bad there's no Black Thought verse on this one, though.

You can download "Our Generation" at the Levi's site and view footage of the track's creation below. Wake Up! is due out Sept. 21.
