I recently had a brief conversation about jj on Twitter with fellow Prefix writer Dave Toropov where he declared the Swedish duo as "terrifying." When I asked him to elaborate Dave explained "they talk about dying in the voice of angels." It's probably this friction, the beauty of jj's melodies and the melancholy of their lyrics that make them so mysterious and fascinating.
The video for "Money On My Mind" is a perfect visual encapsulation of that dynamic. It's simply a beautiful girl in various stages of undress moping about a dingy hotel room, but the short clip also manages to drive right to the heart of what makes jj such a consistently intriguing group: a delicately balanced mixture of beauty and sadness. Oh, and an unhealthy dose of drugs.
