jj: 'Kills' (Mixtape)
We got wind of jj's latest effort a few days ago when fellow Prefix writer Wolcott Katzenbach posted the trailer for the Kills mixtape. And, as promised, the free project from the Swedish pop duo appeared this morning on the Sincerely Yours website. The trailer indicated that the tape might offer jj's own take on Kanye West's "Monster," though that wasn't much of a surprise as the duo's affinity for modern rap and R&B is well documented. And, as we all could have guessed, many of the tracks on Kills feature the duo either remixing or straight-up singing over beats such as Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" and Dr. Dre's "Under Pressure." It's hard not to take it as being overly ironic, but some of these work pretty damn well.
