It might seem a little hard to believe, but Ascension, the upcoming album from Justin Broadrick's Jesu project, is only the band's third full-length. It's a fact that gets a little lost due to the torrential downpour of EPs and other material Jesu has generated in the four years since 2007's Conqueror. "Birth Day" doesn't do too much to stray from Jesu's established formula of crushing guitars, shimmering synthesizers, and timid vocals, but for reference's sake, it falls on the more melodic end of the Jesu spectrum. Give the track a spin over at Stereogum, and check out the Ascension cover art attached to this post.
Ascension is due out May 10 via Caldo Verde, the label operated by the heavy-in-a-different-way Mark Kozelek.
Wait, didn't Infinity count as an album?
Nope. It was technically a 50 minute EP. Weird.
