The question is always put as "style or substance," but sometimes an artist can marry them so well that they become the same thing. In Jeremy Jay's case, if his music's style was so pronounced, then it would be substantial. Just look at this video for "Lite Beam," off of Jay's Love Everlasting EP. Not too many people could get away with standing in one place, delivering lines like "You're a light beam running through a neon fountain," with your cooler-than-thou "band" behind you, looking like they're entirely removed from what's happening. But this isn't just hubris, this is Jay's whole coked-out low-light disco-sway deal. There's nothing else.
