Jean Grae: "Bridge" prod. RJD2
The premise behind the forthcoming Talib Kweli and Blacksmith Music mixtape, Year of the Blacksmith, is that it pairs up artists within the Blacksmith community with producers across the globe. And the tape's latest leak, "Bridge," finds Jean Grae rapping over a swirling, punchy beat from RJD2. They're also joined by vocalist MeLa Machinko, whose ghostly vocals add another layer to the track that sometimes just has too much going on at once. But it's still nice to hear from Grae, whose last official album, Jeanius with 9th Wonder, dropped in June 2008. But she's apparently preparing a new record, Cake or Death, that's scheduled to hit stores this coming spring.
