Jay-Z and Beyonce surprised everyone by showing up at a Grizzly Bear show in Brooklyn on Sunday (Aug. 30), and now the hip-hop star has been talking to MTV about the group. He describes them as an “incredible band” on this clip, and talks about the “indie rock movement” that is inspiring him.
It’s probably too late for The Blueprint 3 to show any signs of Jay-Z’s current musical fascination, but the thought of him teaming up with a group of fey indie rockers would certainly be intriguing. “The music that they're making and the connection they're making to people is really inspiring,” he said.
Calling this an "indie-rock movement" is like saying Dookie ushered in the punk movement.
Seems many, many years late and not a movement at this point, but I imagine more "indie-rock" (whatever that means anymore) bands will get their due.
Grizzly Bear became a breakthrough band because of an endorsement by Johnny Greenwood. But Johnny Greenwood is an alternative rock star himself. Can we, just once and for all, take a perspective on rock and roll (indie or otherwise) that goes beyond 1995?
I thought the linkin park collaboration was the beginning of a "movement"??!

I love how remarkably unsurprising these ignorant comments are for someone who is involved in music to the degree JayZ is. Can you expect him to know better? But you can expect him to know that hip-hop hasn't been pushing boundries for some time now.
