Jay-Z: "Empire State of Mind" ft. Alicia Keys (Live on MTV VMAs) (Video)
Jay-Z and Alicia Keys' performance of The Blueprint 3 highlight "Empire State of Mind" was the easy musical highlight of last night's VMAs, as Jigga didn't have to rely on fake self-mutilation (Lady Gaga) or Cirque do Solamesauce (Pink) to be memorable. Instead his performance referenced The Wrestler and had he and Alicia Keys being confident and assured that they were crushing it. I was hoping for a Nas collabo (like a "Empire State of Mind"/"NY State of Mind" mash-up), but this was good too.

When I learned Jay Z was performing this song I didn't want to hear it but the I realized everybody was anticipating his song. When I heard it I had to download this song is fire, but critics will chop this song up like meat. But I heard and started writing my state of mind.

Well, who would want to see Jay-Z on a trapeeze or in a performace like Lady Gagas? Then instead of saying it was an "easy musical highlight" you'd say he sold out. The performace was amazing, his entrance was even better, but Lady Gaga's is easily one of the most memeorable becasue it was truely her and it was truely VMA style.

really good night and amazing performance and song that songs is really good and jay-z and alicia keys rocked it. Lil mama stay off the stage and just stick to putting you lip gloss on. Also when he threw that hat out im wondering if its on ebay. not to mention 4:19 is a very funny clip with beyonce dancing and then gaga in the back with the birds nest on her face nice

I have to disagree with you Jen. GaGa played and performed that song at least 5 million times. And judging by the looks of the celeb guests of that night who watched in horror as Lady GaGa twisted squirmed and writhed on the piano and on the floor, it can't possibly be the best performance of that night. And let's face it, she doesn't have any new material, so she did what everyone expected her to do in such a situation: make a freak out of herself. She made a scene bleeding all over at the end of her perf. like a stabbed hoar. And what the hell was that creature she was wearing on her face when she was in the crowd? I used to really like her music and her style before she went all mainstream and topping charts. Now it's not fun and games anymore. Jay-Z rocked out for sure.
