He may have jokingly been introduced as “Jay-Zed,” but that didn’t stop Jay-Z from putting on a lavish performance of “Empire State of Mind” at the Brit Awards in London last night (Feb. 16). Alicia Keys also made the trip across the Atlantic to put in a special appearance at a ceremony that commemorated the 30^th year of the annual awards show.

You know by now whether you love or hate this song due to its unavoidable ubiquity, and it’s already set in stone as the signature tune from The Blueprint 3. The lyrics run through just about every cliché associated with the Big Apple, and its you-can-do-anything-here tone may grate on anyone affected by the economic downturn, but it’s still damn difficult to get it out of your head after a couple of plays.
