Always Wanting More (MP3)

Average Rating: 7.00

When Matador signed Memphis-based punk rocker Jay Reatard, they had to be expecting songs like “Always Wanting More,” a hook-filled blast of pop-punk that recalls The Buzzcocks and The Modern Lovers.

The song is poised to be the third single in Reatard’s Matador catalog of 7-inch singles that will be complied in a full length early next year. But the song is available now as a part of the label’s Intended Play series.

“Always Wanting More” is a promising start to Reatard’s post-Blood Visions (his still awesome 2006 album) career; a tightly wound 2 minute explosion that switches back and forth between its “You’re such a useless bore/ and you’re always wanting more” chorus and its lo-fi guitar melody.
