The impressive work undertaken by Daytrotter continues with a session from Brooklyn cut-and-paste merchants Javelin. Tom van Buskirk and George Langford have always had a frivolous side to their music, which is brought to the fore more than ever before here, with the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink production fitting nicely with their distinctly old school ‘80s hip-hop leanings. Daytrotter has made a few changes to their service in recent times—you’ll have to sign up for a free trial of the site to hear these songs—but it’s worth it when Javelin hit the solid, handclap-driven groove of “Colleagues” and find an easy meeting place for influences like Ween, the Art of Noise, and Grandmaster Flash.
