Jarvis Cocker

"Further Complications" (Live on Fallon) (Video)

Questlove from the Roots made a provocative tweet ahead of Jarvis Cocker’s appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show yesterday (July 30). “hmmm. Fighting the urge to get Jarvis Cocker back for that MJ incident some years back. Dude looks THROWED,” he wrote, in relation to Cocker’s stage invasion during a Michael Jackson performance at the Brit Awards back in 1996.

The jibe didn’t seem to bother the former Pulp singer, who performed a robust version of the title track from his recent Further Complications album. The record has had lukewarm reviews and it’s easy to see why—Cocker is still an engaging frontman, but the distinctly unmemorable “Further Complications” suggests that he’s momentarily lost the songwriting nouse that made Pulp such a special band.

"distinctly unmemorable"

The reviews always say that about albums when the artists are enjoying themselves.

I'd say it's the most vital and energized Cocker's sounded in years.

By "lukewarm reviews" and "distinctly unmemorable", does that mean getting highly favorable ratings from Spin, Rollingstone, NME, AllMusic, Uncut, etc. and then later, be heavily pooped on by die-hard Pulp fans who still think We Love Life and Hardcore as his best efforts, though in real life, they never really cared about those albums. Can you clear this up for me, Prefix?
