The opening cut from the new Jane’s Addiction album The Great Escape Artist is titled “Underground,” which was the band’s song of choice for The Late Show last night. This feels like an attempt to replicate the success of “Superhero” (better known as the theme from Entourage), largely due to its propulsive guitar sound and Perry Farrell’s angsty vocals. It’s certainly a long way from classic Jane’s Addiction material, but at least it gave Farrell a chance to bring his scantily clad backing dancers to late night TV, sparking some oddball (and slightly creepy) comments from Letterman at the end.
