Jane's Addiction haven't necessarily had a good track record when it comes to music videos, and this is going back to their early-'90s heyday. Apart from "Been Caught Stealing," has the band made a transcendent video? I think no. It always seems like Perry Farrell's incoherent ideas about art collide with the need to promote a song and album. And this one for "Irresistible Force" is no different, as it's a mess of imagery of scantily clad women, of grass, of Farrell dressed as opera conductor, of video effects, of planetary objects. This will probably be nominated for a VMA for Best Rock Video next year, but everyone will forget they ever saw it.
Jane's The Great Escape Artist is due out on Oct. 4 via Capitol.
