It's ironic that in a year when she's being heralded as an exciting new voice from the African American music community, that Janelle Monae is almost certainly not getting serious airplay on BET. It's not like she has any shot in overtaking Waka Flocka Flame, or whoever is on top of 106 & Park this week, and it's possible that her performance on Mo'Nique's show yesterday was her first appearance on the network. The performance was nothing special--well, I guess it was, but it's basically the exact same performance Monae has done on Letterman and other shows, except with 100% more shots of an awkwardly dancing Mo'Nique. But still, this is more adventurous than three-quarters of the stuff currently getting played on BET.
