In a laughable age where the term ‘sex-texting’ not only exists but is commonly uttered with dread on the local news, it’s refreshing to see the Stereogum premiere for Jamie Lidell’s latest video for “Telephone,” where the union between phones and sex are brought back to basics. Forget phone sex operators, here a velvet curtain is the backdrop for a Betty Page-era sexpot naughtily dancing alongside a rotary-dial telephone, Lidell strutting around filming her with a vintage movie camera. Being the respectable lad that he is, Lidell dons an ascot underneath his sensible sweater vest, perhaps suggesting that sometimes classy gets you much further with the ladies than scummy.
