Jamie Lidell took a couple tracks from his solid Compass album onto Spinner's empty room performance series Interface recently. Fans expecting the full-band soul revue here will be disappointed, as Lidell rocks out on guitar with a bassist, a drummer and a dude playing a laptop. Above is a take of the crushing "Coma Chamelon," which comes off a bit dry in the choruses here thanks to the empty production here. Below is a slightly better take of "The Ring," where Lidell loops vocal melodies for a while before the band comes in. Lidell is really scaling things down here. I wonder if he picked that up from Beck, who has recently gone through down-scaling himself. Watch two other videos at Spinner.
