Donut Shop is an official collaboration between Stones Throw, Serato, and the J Dilla Estate. As such, you can pat yourself on the back after dropping money on this two-disc release that features six instrumentals, three of which were previously unreleased. One of those is "Safety Dance," which, you guessed it, offers Dilla turning Men Without Hats' epically goofy single into a psychedelic, scuzzy piece of boom-bap. It's nothing amazing, that's for sure, but it's kind of hilarious to think that Dilla probably got bored one day and decided to flip "The Safety Dance." This track probably does sound great with a good subwoofer, though, thanks to those insane synthesizers.
You can listen to "Safety Dance" at Stones Throw. Donut Shop drops this May.
