J. Cole's "Who Dat," like too many other young rappers' first major label singles, felt rushed and somewhat thrown together at first listen, especially the hook. But, like those aforementioned tracks, they tend to grow on you with repeated spins. And it doesn't hurt when the song -- in this case, the shit-talk-filled "Who Dat" -- is aided by some ridiculous, thunderous production and strong lyricism.
And now, the golden boy of Roc Nation finally gets his first official video for his untitled debut's lead single. The visuals here are refreshingly (and surprisingly) engaging. They actually make you want to watch the entire thing rather than just click the play button and open a new tab. So on that alone, J. Cole and director BBGUN deserve some props.
But one question remains: Can we get a release date and official title for the debut already?
