Sam Beam brought Iron & Wine to Jay Leno’s show last night (May 18) to perform “Tree By the River” from Kiss Each Other Clean. Beam looks like he’s cleaned up his act here—perhaps that’s what signing to a major label does to you? Even his famous beard looks shorn and tasteful. Anyway, his musical fascinations remain much the shame, with splashes of folk and alt. country firmly in place, and an overall sound that’s not far removed from the melancholy songs from R.E.M.’s Green.
