Sam Beam’s Iron & Wine performed a session for WNYC’s Soundcheck earlier in the week, where they previewed tracks from the forthcoming Kiss Each Other Clean (check out video from the entire set here). The suddenly famous Ted Williams introduced Beam and his band last night (Jan. 6) on Jimmy Fallon’s show, where they continued to offer a glimpse of that new record with a performance of “Half Moon.” This is the kind of melancholy, country-inflected rock tune that Beam does so well, with shades of R.E.M. circa Green thanks to a little mandolin playing, and a confidence to the performance that suggests his major label debut is about to significantly increase his audience.
