Interpol: "Lights" (MP3)
Bands often find it hard to make the leap from one decade to the next. Many of the artists who were “hot” in the ‘90s found it difficult to make the transition to the ‘00s, with a number of them either splitting up or fading away. So what chance do bands who were big in the past decade stand in the 2010s? LCD Soundsystem has already announced its likely demise, and people are going to be closely watching acts like TV on the Radio, Animal Collective, the Strokes and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to see how durable they are.

Interpol is another name to add to that list—especially as the critical reception to Our Love to Admire wasn’t exactly glowing. The key to a Flaming Lips or Radiohead sized career is to adapt and evolve, to subtly work in new angles and impulses, but it seems Interpol is steadfastly sticking to its former glories on “Lights.” Simply, it’s just another Interpol song, and whether that’s enough to sustain interest in the band remains to be seen—but you can judge for yourself by heading over to the group’s site and downloading the track for the price of an email address.

I actually think most of the big bands from last decade will continue to be big. It seems a lot harder to become a "big" band now and the established ones still seem to move records. I think the LCD record will sell well despite the leak and I'd be surprised if Interpol doesn't debut at #1 or #2 when their next album comes out.
