Interpol’s eponymously titled fourth record is picking up some distinctly mixed reviews, although it will be more fascinating to see how they fare on its Carlos D-less followup at some point in the future. The band has hit the promo treadmill for the album, appearing on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night (Sept. 8) to perform “Barricade” and “Summer Well.”
“Barricade” doesn’t offer us much that we haven’t already heard from Interpol—Paul Banks’ gruff baritone vocal, strident guitar lines, the band dressed in all-black—but they are missing the presence of Carlos D, whose gun holster outfits and spectacular facial hair would at least have given us some interesting visual stimulus.
