Earlier this year San Diego indie-pop darlings Pinback announced they would release their sixth studio full-length, Information Retrieved. The album sees the band at their lightest as they mourn the loss of friend and bandmate Terrin Durfey, who passed away in 2008 from cancer. Crow and Smith did little to let this change their musical format, however, as the album floats through predictably airy vocals that lie atop a soft, hazy reverb.
Their formulaic approach does them well though as the duo makes their way through another collection of powerful lyrics and dream-like riffs accompanied by a snappy drum machine. Information Retrieved is available Oct. 16 via Temporary Residence. For now you can stream their first studio album in five years, courtesy of WNYC Soundcheck:
