Jhené Aiko’s re-emerging career is an interesting one. The Los Angeles singer got her start at the young age of 14 — she’s 23 now — as a guest on a slew of B2K songs. Yeah, so if you, too, were 14 back in 2002/2003, you no doubt remember her. If not, it’s probably for the better, as she’s completely reinvented herself and has become a darling of the hip-hop community. In particular, she was featured on Drake’s Thank Me Later and she has worked closely with the Black Hippy crew, which is made up of Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock.
Aiko is also building a buzz with her own projects, including this year’s Sailing Soul(s) and its soon-coming follow-up Souled Out. The smoky “In Love We Trust” is the first track we’re hearing from the record and it finds Aiko dabbling in darker territory lyrically. The song also features a sharp guest verse from L.A. rap upstart Casey Veggies, who, too, sounds great over K.Roosevelt’s hazy production. Stream “In Love We Trust” below. [Hypetrak]
