All the way back in February I pegged Gil Scott-Heron‘s I’m New Here as one of the best albums of the year. Looking back from the midway point of 2010, it doesn’t have much competition. The terse, tightly focused album is still a regular listen and a testament to Scott-Heron’s artistic growth as he enters his seventh decade. A far cry from the menacing clip that accompanied “Me And The Devil,” this video for “I’m New Here” — produced by British team Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard who have worked with Nick Cave, among others — is as plaintive and straightforward as the song itself. Highlighting Scott-Heron’s arresting presence and natural appeal, this clip perfectly complements the standout title track penned by Bill Callahan.
